How Do You Know If Your Bathroom Toilet Is Leaking?
Bathroom toilet leaks are one of the leading causes of water leaks in a home, with some experts projecting that as much as 20- to 30-percent of homes leaking water from their toilets alone. Some leaks don’t even cause damage as much as they – pardon the pun – flush money down the toilet.
Some Visible Symptoms of Water Leaks
– Water or moisture on or around your toilet
– Swelling wood on your baseboards or the base of your cabinets
– Mildew or mold around your toilet
– Easily overlooked puddles behind your toilet
Simple Test to Determine If You Have A Bathroom Toilet Leak
First, remove the lid off of the top of your toilet tank. Next, add a couple of drops of food coloring into the tank and wait 20 to 30 minutes. If you notice that color in the lower bowl (without flushing) when you return, then you have water leaking into the bowl – meaning you’re paying for that water to run through your toilet 24-7-365. It adds up.
The “Hiss of Death”
When you pop off the top of your toilet tank, do you hear a constant hissing sound? That’s a dead giveaway that water is running. This constant running water is like – pardon the pun again – tossing money down the drain. Get it fixed.
